Six More Miles
That's what my goal is. Yesterday (after many weeks of begging Miguel) we decided to go bike riding with Sam. I can't tell you when the last time I rode my bike was but, I know its been quite awhile. The choice was between Santa Fe Dam or Whittier Greenway Trail. We opted for the latter. We thought this would be a better scenic route for Sam. Turned out not to matter much since shortly after we started she fell asleep.
We arrive at Palm Park, which is where we usually park our car to start the trail. I decided to haul Sami. I figured I wanted to get as much of a work out as I possibly could. We started off and within less than 1 mile into it my thighs were absolutely killing me. I was laughing in disbelief! I couldn't believe how out of shape I was. Though I play soccer, I guess its not enough to get me into better shape. We were both laughing and complaining about the pain we were feeling. Miguel was feeling it in his calves, I was just feeling it on my thighs. We hustled on and kept moving forward. We were going to make the drive and bike ride worth it. The trail is 5 miles long one way. We managed to get to the third mile and decided we had enough.
Now, the treacherous ride back! You could totally tell we were both tired and hurting. I was struggling to pull Sam and myself. I think there was a part where I actually almost crashed her little child carrier into a pole. No bueno. We finally make it back, safely, to our car. Our legs were shaking and our behinds were a tad sore but we both felt as we accomplished something. We decided to attempt to start bike riding each Sunday in hopes of building up our stamina.
In total we managed to do 6 1/2 miles. Not bad considering we hadn't rode in quite sometime. Bad however, for me, since I use to ride over 32 miles every Sunday! Today I can barely make 6 miles! I suppose there is a couple of differences. Before I was 20lbs lighter and wasn't hauling a 30lb toddler!
If you guys are interested in going for a nice short scenic route, I'd recommend Whitter Greenway Trail. There is a nice bridge that crosses Whitter and Washington. I am a big fan of bridges and always look forward to that point. There is also posts with the history of Whittier. If you feel like going for a run, bike ride or even taking the doggie for a walk, this is the perfect place. Everyone is friendly AND they even have doggie poop bags throughout the trail. I was so impressed! Then again, Miguel says I am easily amused.
yay whittier!!! (i was impressed with the doggie poop bags too btw....even though i have no dog..)
ReplyDeletehey thats just by my casa! well at the corner of our house we have the San Gabriel River Trail its very cool its 3miles all around nice work out and doggie poop bags too lol..u should check that one out too.
