Oldest Friends

I realized not too long ago that Sami is now the age I was when I met some of my closest friends. I have a few friends that I met when I was way younger, but I'm not sure I'd call them friends. We don't text or call, we keep in touch thanks to social media. Not complaining, I'm grateful to still be able to see what they're up to through these forums, but I don't think we'd be considered friends. If that makes sense.

I have vivid memories of the few friends that I met at her age. One of them I met at my abuelita's house. I remember going outside to play with him and the rest of the guys. As it has been most of my life, I was the only girl. I didn't mind. I always felt a little too rough around the edges to play with girls my age. It most definitely paid off in adulthood because somehow I always felt ahead of the game when it came to guy bullshit. I remember my abuelita wouldn't let me go outside to play because she said I'd fall and scrape my needs. Me being me, I'd run out the backdoor and come back an hour later crying because I fell and scraped my knees. My abuelita would give me the look and then clean my wounds. Needless to say I still have the scars on my knees till this day. Tenias razon, abuelita!

One of the other friends I met was in school. We weren't in the same class but I think our classes would rotate or something. Half of the students would go into one class and the others into his class. Again, it's a guy. Shocker, am I right? The twist to this story is that jerk off doesn't remember me! To make matters worse I don't have a picture of us at that age, I ended up switching schools mid-year. We ended up seeing each other again in jr. high and we were totally besties. It's funny because the few classes we had together, we'd always sit next to each other, and get in trouble for talking. He'd get moved every time and try to throw me under the bus. It was comedy.

Hopefully Sami can start making life long friends too. I sometimes worry because I know most of her friends won't be going to the same jr. high and high school. She also just started a new school. Same grade I was when I had to switch. I was fortunate, maybe she'll be twice as fortunate.
